Stephen Colbert may not be erotice modelslegally permitted to trot out his beloved conservative alter-ego, "Stephen Colbert," following his exit fromThe Colbert Report(although we're a big fan of his identical twin cousin, "Stephen Colbert") -- but thankfully that hasn't curtailed the host's political commentary this election season.
Colbert has remained a vital voice of reason as the host of CBS' The Late Show-- albeit at the mercy of network censors -- but the comedian's latest project will give him a less restrictive platform.
Showtime has announced that Colbert is aiming to bring his inimitable brand of satire to a live election night special for the premium cabler, titled Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going To Clean Up This Sh*t? The one-hour special will air Tuesday, November 8 at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
This marks the first partnership between Showtime and the team behind The Late Show, who will produce the one-hour event. The Late Showis broadcast on CBS, a corporate sibling of Showtime, which likely cleared away a lot of the red tape on the collaboration. Colbert, Chris Licht, Tom Purcell and Jon Stewart are the executive producers.
The uncensored special will see Colbert reacting in real-time to the election results as the state by state returns come in. "It'll be all the political comedy you love from my CBS show, with all the swearing and nudity you love from Showtime," Colbert said in a statement.
The Late Showhas gone live following the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and the recent presidential and vice presidential debates, but Showtime notes that the premium cable perch will allow Colbert "to do things he’s never been able to do in this campaign, such as directly quote a candidate without being bleeped."
The special will be filmed live at The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City with a studio audience, and will also feature remote segments and surprise guests.
Showtime President and CEO David Nevins first broke the news of the special at the Television Critics Association press tour in August, noting that conversations with Colbert were underway.

So the thought is doing a live special and it will be Colbert unfettered. He’s promised he will say at least a couple curse words, which is important to me," Nevins said at the time. "It’s something I’ve been trying to get him to do for awhile, and he sort of woke up and said, 'yeah, that’s something I’d like to do.' I think it will be great. He’s not on CBS that night anyway."
