The Mike Horner ArchivesChicago Cubs finally gave fans what they've waited 71 years for -- a World Series win at beloved Wrigley Field.
Sunday night's 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians was desperately needed, too. A Chicago loss would have ended the 2016 World Series, which now instead moves back to Ohio with Cleveland up three games to two.
SEE ALSO: The dark side of a feel-good World SeriesWith one more victory, the Indians will win their first World Series since 1948; the Cubs now must win two more for their first championship since 1908. That's a considerable task as the series heads back to Cleveland for good -- but for now, Cubs fans can revel in not having their best season in decades end at home and living to wriggle through at least one more stomach-churning elimination game.
After Cleveland's Jose Ramirez hit a solo homer in the second inning to give the Indians and their stingy defense a 1-0 lead, Kris Bryant smashed a solo blast of his own to even the score in the fourth.

Bryant's dinger swung momentum firmly back in Chicago's favor, and the Cubs tacked on two more runs before the inning was out to end the fourth with a 3-1 lead. The Indians cut that advantage in half in the sixth, though, setting the stage for Chicago's flame-throwing reliever Aroldis Chapman to enter the game in the seventh inning -- far earlier than the Cubs would typically use him.
But Chapman -- acquired by the Cubs mid-season for moments just like this -- was up to the task. He registered a rare eight-out save, something no pitcher had done in an elimination game since Madison Bumgarner in the 2014 World Series.

And so the Cubs staved off elimination Sunday night and kept alive hopes for ending a 108-year championship drought. Could they possibly end that epic losing streak by coming back from a 3-1 series deficit?
We'll find out. Game 6 is Tuesday night in Cleveland, where the Cubs will fight for their lives again and look to force a Game 7 for all the baseball marbles.
