It turns out you don't need to spend $999 to get the iPhone X's most noticeable features.
No,Obsession Archives not the talking Animoji or slightly creepy face scanning, but the notch. A clever developer has created an Android app that brings the iPhone X's distinctive camera cutout to Android handsets.
SEE ALSO: Why Apple is risking everything with the iPhone XCalled "XOutof10," the app doesn't actually doanything, other than create a black space around the top of the screen to mimic Apple's sensor-packed notch.
"You, the average Android user, probably had a laugh on Apple users about the new camera bump that covers the screen's content," the developer writes on GitHub. "Well, you won't pay 999$ just to test it. And now, you don't need to!"
If you want to try the iPhone-like notch for yourself, the developer has put the download up on GitHub so anyone can download it. Note that it's compatible with Android Marshmallow and higher, and that if you're running Android Oreo, the so-called "bump" won't display when you pull down the status bar.
Besides being a good way to get a sense of what the iPhone X display is like, it has the added benefit (and, if we're being honest, the best benefit) of being a great way to troll Apple-loving friends who are salivating over the iPhone X, which will be in short supply.
