Wonder Woman's already wooed critics, won fans, and ruled the box office – and now she's emerged as an unexpected contender in the 2018 awards race.

Wonder Womanmade the cut for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures (the guild's equivalent of Best Picture), along with The Big Sick, Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, Get Out, I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Molly's Game, The Post, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Although the PGA Awards lacks the glamour and name recognition of the Golden Globes, it's considered a strong predictor of the Academy Awards, as there is significant overlap each year between the PGA's best picture nominees and the Academy's.
Back in July, word got around that Wonder Womanhad set its sights on the Oscars, with Warner Bros. planning a "formidable" awards campaign for the film. We'll find out how those efforts panned out later this month, when the Academy announces their nominations.
But the fact that Wonder Woman's even come this far is pretty impressive. For all their popularity at the box office, superhero movies have largely been overlooked in the awards race from year to year.
That said, it's not entirely unheard of for one to make the cut – and a PGA nom doesn't always translate into Oscar love.
Just last year, Deadpoolsurprised awards-watchers by squeezing its way into the PGA Awards nomination field. In 2008, The Dark Knightmade the cut. Neither wound up with a Best Picture Oscar nomination.
Then again, if there's one thing we've learned this year, it's never to bet against Wonder Woman. If any superhero has a shot at the golden statute, it may just be Diana.
