In addition to re-reviving The amateur webcam sex videosX-Files and passing on American Idol, Fox's new 2017-2018 season lineup is all about sci-fi, hot doctors and superheroes -- what's not to love?

The broadcast network is following in the footsteps of sister channel FX with The Gifted, a drama set in the X-Men universe, along with several high-concept new series. They include:

• The Orville, Seth MacFarlane's Galaxy Quest-esque sci-fi series that gives the space travel tropes ofStar Treka comedic twist.

• Ghosted, a buddy comedy starring Craig Robinson and Adam Scott as a pair of Mulder and Scully-lite paranormal investigators.

• The Resident, starring The Good Wife and Gilmore Girls' Matt Czuchry as a rebellious doctor who breaks the rules and, judging by that artful stubble, probably breaks a few hearts along the way.

Debuting Fall

The Orville - Thursdays at 9 p.m.

Created by Seth MacFarlane and directed by Jon Favreau, The Orvilleis a one-hour sci-fi spoof is set 400 years in the future aboard the mid-level exploratory vessel U.S.S. Orville. MacFarlane plays Planetary Union officer Ed Mercer, who finally gets his chance at command after a bitter divorce -- only to discover that the First Officer assigned to his ship is his ex-wife (Adrianne Palicki).

Ghosted - Sundays at 8:30 p.m.

Craig Robinson and Adam Scott star in this action-comedy about two down-on-their-luck dudes tasked with saving the human race from alien invaders. Working for a secret government organization, this group of misfits looks into “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles.

The Gifted - Mondays at 9 p.m.

A suburban couple (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker) discovers that their children (Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White) possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run, the Struckers must leave behind their old lives to flee from a relentless government agency that tracks down mutants. Their only choice: contact an underground network that helps mutants in trouble.

Debuting midseason

The Resident

The latest network medical drama focuses on three doctors and a nurse at different stages of their careers at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. A third-year resident (Matt Czuchry) teaches an idealistic first-year (Manish Dayal) about the inevitable compromises and blurring of ethical lines at hospitals.

LA to Vegas

A single-camera ensemble comedy about an airline crew who take the roundtrip flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas every weekend. From executive producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Lon Zimmet and Steve Levitan. Dylan McDermott plays narcissistic pilot Captain Dave, while Kim Matula is the long-suffering flight attendant who tries to hold it all together.

9-1-1

From Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, new procedural drama 9-1-1 is a fast-paced exploration into the lives and careers of first responders. Starring Angela Bassett, the series is based on the real-life, high-pressure experiences of emergency response providers. A trailer for the show is not yet available, since the show is about to go into production.
