Bad news for anyone who still wants the iMac Pro desktop computer Apple launched way back in 2017: Its days are Polymorphic eroticismnumbered.
Apple is discontinuing the formerly build-to-order desktop behemoth, 9to5Mac reported. You can still get the default model with no extra bells or whistles for $5,000 as long as supplies last, but after that, it's into the great digital beyond for the iMac Pro.
There are plenty of very sensible reasons for Apple to make this move. It's been four years (yes, 2017 was four years ago) since the iMac Pro hit the scene, and high-end workstations like this are more useful the newer they are.
Apple also has a newer, more powerful $6,000 Mac Pro computer it'll happily sell you if you're in the need for a computational titan to make Hollywood visual effects or whatever else you need to do with it.
Beyond that, as 9to5Mac points out, the discontinuation of one Apple product likely means the introduction of a successor in the near future. While nothing is confirmed yet, it's not a stretch to assume there will be a refresh of the iMac product line sometime soon.

While this doesn't really qualify as a major sea change in Apple's product lineup and probably won't be especially devastating to many customers, it's worth knowing about nonetheless. If you've had your eyes on an iMac Pro, now is the time to make a decision. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one for less than the very large $5,000 price tag.
