LOS ANGELES -- Moonlightand American Honeydominated the Independent Spirit Awards nominations with six apiece,Movies | Movies free | Movies latest 2022 Film Independent announced Tuesday.
Both films were nominated in the Best Feature category alongside Chronic, Jackieand Manchester by the Sea.
SEE ALSO: Indie Spirit Awards honor black actors, first transgender womanManchester, the Sundance breakout by writer/director Kenneth Lonergan, was nominated for five Indie Spirit Awards including editing, male lead (Casey Affleck), screenplay and male supporting (Lucas Hedges) -- but, puzzlingly, no directing award for Lonergan himself.
Film Independent limits its eligible films by budget, and is believed to cap nominees around $20 million -- meaning several Oscar contenders like La La Land,though produced outside the major studio system, are not eligible.
