Yes,Spideypool XXX Parody there's a company that's actually trying to sell you an MP3 player in 2016.
The Mighty, as you may recall, was originally launched as a Kickstarter earlier this year. Although it resembles an iPod shuffle, it's not like a traditional MP3 player. It's the first of its kind to sync music from your Spotify Premium account -- though, it's notan official partnership -- and let you listen on the go withoutan internet-connected smartphone.
SEE ALSO: Mighty lets you listen to Spotify on the go, without Wi-Fi or a smartphoneThe team behind Mighty stopped by Mashable HQ to show me a near finished version. It's a pretty niche device, to say the least. You have to be a pretty diehard Spotify user to even consider buying the $80 Mighty.
The audio player has 8GB of internal storage, which is just enough room for about 1,000 songs (about 48 hours of music) at Spotify Premium's highest quality audio. And if you like, you can also sync your own MP3s locally. The Mighty team says the music player is good for up to 15 hours of continuous playback.
Clip it to anythingDesign-wise, the green and black colors that matched Spotify's theme colors are gone. This was done to avoid confusion that the Mighty is an official Spotify product. Thus, the music player will ship in either white or black. I think they look better in their new clothes.
The Mighty buttons are as straightforward as it gets; five buttons for playback controls and a button in the upper right to switch between playlists.
You can choose your own specific playlists to sync or use the "Stay Fresh" feature, which syncs random playlists at night to surprise you when you wake up.
Because there's no screen to see what playlist is playing, the music player actually speaks the name of the playlist into your headphones; you can even record your own voice for each one if you like.
Playlists are synced over Wi-Fi through a phone app. It's simple, easy and fast. The app also displays metrics to tell you how often and how long you use your Mighty. Good for data-tracking junkies.
And with iPhones now lacking headphone jacks, you'll be happy to know the Mighty has one. You can also use Bluetooth headphones with it as well.
From what I saw, the build quality is OK for an $80 player. It's 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.7-inches, made of plastic, comes with a clip and looks durable. It is water and drop resistant, after all.
I don't know if I'm a big enough fan of Spotify Premium to buy a standalone music player just for listening to music offline, but if you're, say, a runner and you don't want to strap your iPhone or Android phone to your arm, the Mighty could be just the thing you need in your life.
